The Man

Johan (John) was born in 1838 in the Lofoten Islands of Norway, above the Artic Circle. After attaining his degree and engaging in other studies, he made the trip to the United States in 1869, with stays in Chicago and Louisville, Kentucky before finally arriving in Sedalia in 1878. Mr. Johnson became the Pettis County Surveyor and held that office for two full elected terms. It was in 1880 that he designed the Original Covered Bridge. He passed away in 1891, leaving the legacy of the bridge for all who followed.
