The Friends of the Covered Bridge are grateful for labor assistance on the Covered Bridge Project which stemed from the Engineering Department of State Fair Community College, (SFCC). The Engineering Department, headed by Steven Bloess, conducts excellent classes in Construction Management, among other topics and venues. From that/those classes we thank Jake and Brian - and the State Fair Community College, specifically the Engineering Department for their involvement - and introducing us to Jake and Brian - two fine young men, indeed - who donated a day's time and labor to the project.

By far the bulk of construction has come from volunteers - nearly all of whom are over 60 years of age. It is this "core" group of individuals who, day in and day out, have supplied time, labor and their own tools in endeavoring to make the Covered Bridge project, and the "Walkway of Memories" a reality for Sedalians and other municipalities of Central Missouri. Without these men and women the covered bridges' construction would never have even begun.

While the concept of undertaking the Covered Brigdge Project was that of certain members of the Smith-Cotton High School Class of 1959 - the base of personnel who engaged in the fundraising and actual construction of the bridge include many former high school class members - 1956, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, and many others. It has truly become a community project. Their labors have been chronicled in pictures (links to the pictures are on this web page) for all to see.

We, The Friend of The Covered Bridge, extend our gratitude to these men and women who have so unselfishly donated a part of their lives both to the project and to the citizens of Sedalia and surrounding communities.

This project has become the single most extensive, donation funded, community endeavor of it's type in the history of Sedalia's modern era. It has, itself, become a part of Sedalia's history.
